Hernioplasty for umblical hernia in six crossbred heifers

The present study was conducted in 6 heifers weighting between 210 to 320 kgs presented the large animal surgical unit of Rajiv Gandhi institute veterinary education and research with history swelling umbilical region which kept increasing size. All cases were age group 1.5 3 years. On palpation revealed presence soft reducible mass through a 4 5 finger dilatated hernial ring. These confirmed as hernia due either congenital or acquired reasons. Under sedation xylazine at dose rate 0.1 mg/kg, hernioplasty using polypropylene mesh performed all cases. recovery complete minimal complications.
